Visitor statistics Explanation - Visitors
On this website the visitor and access counter "Visitors" by Glen Langer (BugBuster) is used. Visitors is an extension for the Content-Management-System (CMS) Contao.
Unlike most other visitor statistics tools, Visitors does not store raw data and evaluates it later. The necessary evaluations are carried out immediately. The finished statistics data are saved, with the exception of the IP address, see the following notes. Thus, the goal of data avoidance and data minimization is achieved in the best possible way.
Data acquisition: IP address
Browser agent and referrer
For additional statistics the browser agent is read and the referrer if available. Both are stored separately from the IP address and can therefore not be connected (pure counting).
Data storage: IP address
The IP address of the visitor is not stored. With the exception of bots/crawler/spider detection, the IP address is not used for further analysis.
A pseudonym is generated from the IP address and other internal data in the form of a hash value. A recalculation is conceivable, but only with considerable effort. The hash value is not associated with any other statistical evaluation.
Browser agent and referrer
For the browser agent, the combinations of browser, language, OS are saved with a count, not the complete agent string.
For the referrer, the URL is stored with the count and timestamp of the last occurrence, without connection to the IP address or browser agent.
The hash values for the recognition of different visitors are checked with each call, temporally elapsed values are deleted. Hold time corresponds to the block time, default value is 1800 seconds, i.e. 30 minutes.
The number of visitors/accesses per day is permanently stored, from which the further displays are generated. This storage can be deleted via the backend of Contao, the counter then starts again at 0.
Further information can be found on the website of the developer of Visitors: https://docs.contao.ninja/de/visitors.html
